Beauty: Urban Skincare Routine

A few weeks ago I got an interesting question in my Instagram messages.
Urban Skincare. Anti-Pollution Skincare.
While I live in a city, this is not something I had a great answer to, so of course I did a little research.
Since this is something I think we should all think about, especially considering many of us live in urban settings, I wanted to share what I found!

Cleanse your face twice a day (AM and PM)

This should be important part of everyone's skincare routine, regardless of whether or not you live in an urban setting! Cleansing all of the dirt, impurities and dead skin cells off of your face from your day, making sure your skin is fresh for applying make up or for bed!

Use an Anti Oxidant Serum

This might be a new step in your daily routine. Serums help fight against premature aging that cause wrinkles and dark spots, protecting skin against damage caused by free radicals. Being in an urban setting can amplify the damage our skin receives so this is really important!

Free radicals are produced by environmental factors like pollution and exposure to them over time can cause skin damage and signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles and dark spots. - L'Oreal Paris

Use a Moisturizer

Moisturizer adds a protective barrier to your skin, and helps hydrate it after long days in the city!
In normal and oily skin, external factors like pollution, UV rays, and excessive cleansing over time can damage skin’s moisture barrier, causing loss of moisture and increase in oil production. As a result, your complexion can become overly shiny-looking. - L'Oreal Paris

Use Sunscreen (even when it isn't sunny!)

This is so important, even though the winter! This is not only important in urban settings, but in general to ensure you skin says young looking and help reduce to possibility of wrinkles!
Avoid sun exposure at peek times such as between 10am and 2pm.

Use a Face Mask Once a Week

The best way to refresh your skin at the end of the week! This helps wash away all of the pollution and debris that has built up through the week and can't be cleansed away as easily through a daily cleansing.

There are some other amazing brands out there that have Urban Skincare and Anti-Pollution lines like Nivea and Elemis, which are worth looking into as well!

The Anti-Pollution Skin Care Guide from L'Oreal Paris and the Anti-Pollution Skin Care Tips from Be Beautiful were the best I could find when looking up urban skincare routines if you want to read more or take a look at the sources I used!
